    By walking around town, you can see the many historical buildings, reminders of Scigliano’s admirable pasView of Carmine Golia Squaret. 

   

    Let’s take an imaginary walk among these buildings: We’ll start in Carmine Golia Square (Calvisi) and then go up November IV Street.Doorway on IV November Street

    Our relaxing stroll tken leads us to Saint Nicholas Square, which is surrounded by more buildings on the left aod by the Church of Saint Nicholas on the right. Let’s go on: passing by the train station, we reach ”Marullo” in the hamlet of DianoMarullo water fountain

    Each November on the saint’s feast day, the family who owns the church (and had it built for devotional purposes) has a mass celebrated. 

    As we walk away from Marullo, we reach the neighborhood of  ”Petriciallu” and from here we can take a downhill stroll to the Convent of the Capuchin Friars, also known as the Church of Saint Anthony.

 Convent of Cappuchin Friars   It was built in 1587 and is now being refurbished. 

The Convent has a beautiful eloister and an impressive library containing texts from as far back as 1600. 

    We reach Saint Joseph’s Church by continuing downhill. 

    The closer we get, the more we see of the church’s impressive bell tower, which stores an old clock that has recently been repaired.Bell tower with ancient clock

    The clock’s structure is composed of a large and a small bell, which combine their movements and ring every 15 minutes, providing the town with the exact time for hundreds of years. 

    The large bell, with its hollow sound, strikes the hour, while the small bell’s sharper sound strikes the quarter hour. 

    By proceding downwards, we get to Saint Joseph Square where a tired Details of old balconyvisitor may relax under a gigantic, old chestnut tree and admire the faqade of the church. 

    If you turn to the opposite direction, you can gaze at the green valley and catch a glimpse of the sea. 

    Remember to pay attention to the many details scattered around town as you leisurely stroll by, for instance, the balcony decorations which adorn the main square.
