It is situated on the most elevated part of Calvisi and was consecrated on May 12, 1748 by Bishop De Bernardis.

The church used to house a safekeeping deposit (Monte dei Depositi) founded by the former bishop of the Diocese of Martirano, Mons. Palemonio.

On the right hand side of the central aisle, atop a pillar, we can still admire a well preserved wooden pulpit enhanced by gold-like decorations and a marvelous painting.

From this very pulpit, throughout the years, the people of Scigliano have had the privilege of listening to some of the most memorable sermons of the many prelates that have ensued.

Saint Nicholas’s Church also contains a 1.5 m. marble statue of the Madonna of the Snow (Madonna della Neve), which rests upon a marble base chiseled with numerous sacred images.

Initially, the statue was settled in the Monastery of S. Mary of Corazzo and was later moved to Scigliano on a oxen-drawn cart.

Another copy of the statue is treasured in the ex-Convent of Saint Francis, today the sight of a charming rest home.
